    Guidelines

    What is a remix?
    A remix is a re-envisioning of another’s earlier fanwork. Essentially, it is a retelling of someone else’s story in your own style from a different perspective, angle, or theme.

    What can I do for a remix?
    For this event, we'll be accepting fanworks such as fanfiction, fanart, and fanvids/fanedits.

            Minimum entry requirements:
                 ✦ Written Work: 1,000 words
                 ✦ Fanart: Cleaned-up Sketch
                 ✦ Fanvids/Edits: 30 seconds

    How can I remix?
    While you can change many things for remixes, the basic plot/premise and main character(s) must be retained.

    However, you can:
        ■ POV flip — Retelling the same events from a different    character's point of view or switching between first, second,    or third person

        ■ Sequel/Prequel — The remixer explores what led up to the     events in the original work, or what may have happened after.

        ■ Genre change — Changing a western into a space opera or     changing between slash, het, or gen.

        ■ Trope addition — An extra trope is added by the remixer.

        ■ New spin/tone shift — The same things happen as in the    original fic, but they mean something different than they did in    the original. For example, a happy time travel fic might be    portrayed as tragic by the remixer.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • Can I still participate without being a registrant?
      Absolutely! Just post your remix on the same day, and use #SJRemix2025, or to the AO3 collection. We ask that you receive permission from the original creator before remixing and publishing.

      Can I make more than one remix?
      Yes, just keep in mind that registrants are assigned one remix. So, registrants should manage their time well to fulfill that first!

      Please check the Remix Constraints for squicks and NOTPs.

    • Can I ask to be excluded from being remixed?
      Of course, please contact the mods. We will post a list of excluded creators for non-registrants.

    • Where can I contact the mods?
      Please contact mods through the event's X or bsky account.

    • Are threadfics valid for participation?
      Yes, but please compile them into a list for others to easily navigate.

    • Who are the mods?
      @auspicious_fish
      @caihongpui
